DR Residence
Boechout, Belgium
1999 — 2002
When renovating this initially unpromising farmhouse and barn in Flanders, the serene and homely rural character of the house was maintained. So, the emphasis in the interior was subtly placed on the country surroundings. Purely to emphasise the spatial qualities, some large windows were introduced looking onto the modest, green garden. With the simple interplay of views, circulation axes and different ceiling heights, a fascinating space was created that does not fall within everyday expectations. The sober, yet warm choice of colours and materials such as old belgian bluestone flooring, rough tinted pine-wood wall paneling and traditional hand painted walls reinforce this effect.
